Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Press Statement for release on 29 Apr 2016
Advance Notice: HOUSING BILL Protest outside and inside Parliament 3 May 12-7pm
Housing campaigners from across the country will descend on Parliament on Tuesday 3rd May as the controversial Housing bill returns to the Commons. The protest, organised by the Kill the Housing Bill campaign, will involve tenants of all tenures, housing campaigners and workers, trade unions and politicians. The bill has been subjected to extensive amendments by the Lords, including a number which challenge the bills flagship policies, including Starter Homes and the Pay to Stay tax. A report on Right to Buy from the Commons Public Accounts Committee today raises further 'pressing' questions about the bill. Protestors from across England will assemble outside at Old Palace Yard SW1P 3JY from 12pm demonstrating the spread of opposition to the bill. From 3-7pm protestors will meet with MPs, Lords and other supporters in Committee Room 12, and and to co-ordinate visits to MPs to press opposition to the Bill. A spokesperson for the Kill the Housing Bill campaign said: The Governments Housing Bill aims to destroy council housing, and will hit everyone on low or middle incomes trying to rent or buy. It condemns millions to a lifetime of insecure, expensive private renting. The defeats in the Lords show just how unpopular the bill is, and we are going to make our voice heard and defeat this disastrous legislation. Everyone deserves a decent home, but landlords, developers and the rich will be the only ones to benefit from this Bill. Contact:
