Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Housing Bill - join growing opposition
The Housing Bill is in trouble, with local government leaders calling for defeats see LGA leaders' letter and Lords rejecting key parts of the Government's flagship policies see Telegraph and Mirror reports. A growing campaign rejects the Bill's plans to sell off council homes, remove secure tenancies, force more into unregulated and expensive private renting, and replace homes for rent with starter homes for sale to a lucky few. See Briefing and Evidence to Lords. National sleep out protests this Friday 15th are getting wide support, linking with homeless march and protests to highlight the threat of more homelessness. See sleepout protest details and March with the Homeless.
New areas are joining in daily: to add your area send details to killthehousingbill@gmail.com and info@defendcouncilhousing.org.uk. The campaign goes to Parliament 11 May, before MPs final vote on the Bill.
Tenants, trade unions and councillors will join a protest 12-2pm at Old Palace Yard and then 3-7pm inside Parliament to meet other areas, MPs and Lords and to co-ordinate visits to MPs to change their minds on the Bill. Get in touch for details and leaflets.
And note 18 June second national march against the Housing Bill - we want it scrapped, and for everyone to have a secure home they can afford. Useful links
