Kill the Housing Bill demonstration called

* Social housing subsidised is a MYTH: it actually saves public funds Housing activists will protest outside Parliament on 5 January as MPs debate the Housing and Planning Bill 2015, which seeks to end investment and abolish security for low and modest-income council tenants in England. Defenders of council and housing association (HA) homes will rally outside Parliament from 2pm against the Governments latest onslaught on truly affordable and secure homes.
MPs will be making amendments during the first report stage in the House of Commons. Last week, ministers managed to sneak in last minute amendments to the Bill that threaten stability by proposing new council tenancies lasting only up to five years at a time. The Government have also proposed that at least 350,000 council and housing association renters earning modest salaries will have to pay extortionate market-linked rents in a The campaign has the support of tenant groups across Britain, shadow chancellor John McDonnell, the Radical Housing Network, GMB and other union activists, the London Teachers Housing Campaign, London Gipsy Traveller Unit and many councillors. An aide of Mr McDonnell said during the meeting: Plans were also made to lobby up to 12 Conservative MPs representing areas with high proportions of council and housing association and other tenants. A further campaign organising meeting will be held on Saturday 16 January to build further protests. A national March for Homes demonstration is provisionally scheduled for Saturday 16 April.
