Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Press Statement for release on 19 Dec 2014
All we want for Christmas...is Homes we can afford
Tenants and protestors hit the streets of South London to demand homes we can afford.
Festive banners reading: 'Bah Humbug - Merry Christmas Scrooge! - from the ghosts of Heygate tenants past' and All we want for Christmas is Homes (we can afford) - see photos here .

The protest highlights only 79 'social' homes proposed on the site, replacing the 1,100 council homes on Heygate estate, near Elephant and Castle in the London Borough of Southwark.
Eileen Short chair of Defend Council Housing says:
'Developers are building unaffordable private housing all over London. Encouraged by politicians, they are demolishing good homes to clear sites - it has to stop!
'We're all marching together on 31 January to demand rent controls and the Homes London needs.'

A London March for Homes on 31 Jan is demanding Hands off council housing, controlled rents and affordable, secure homes for all - see www.marchforhomes.org and leaflet.
