Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Map Councils rents and tenancies changes
The Housing minister does not know how tenancy changes are being implemented. The Minister's Communities and Local Government advisors are not monitoring how landlords consult or use new fixed-term tenancies and other powers.
DCH is therefore calling for information on how Councils are consulting tenants on new tenancy policies, and if they are using fixed-term ('flexible') tenancies, up to 80% ('Affordable') rents, and other changes.
Austin Mitchell MP, Councillor Catherine West, Robert Taylor of National Organisation of Private Tenants, Carol Hayton and Eileen Short DCH, met the Housing Minister's advisors to highlight the urgent and growing housing crisis.
On right to buy, advisors confirmed that only extra sales above current predictions will be replaced, and new homes will be at up to 80% market rents, with fixed-term tenancies - not the secure, genuinely affordable and accountable homes desperately needed by the nearly 5 million people on council waiting lists.
Tenants, trade unions, councillors and MPs are demanding investment in secure, genuinely-affordable, and accountable council and other homes for rent.
