Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Defend tenancies and stop evictions
An angry Housing meeting during last week's TUC conference drew up an action plan to oppose Government attacks on tenancy rights, rents and benefits, and eviction threats.
More than 50 tenants and trade unionists agreed to support a protest at Wandsworth Town Hall on 21 September against the threatened eviction of a council tenant, because her son has been charged with involvement in riots. The Campaign will combine lobbying MPs and Councils and organising against evictions. We are demanding MPs and Councillors reject use of fixed-term tenancies, means testing, up to 80% market rents and cutting access to council housing. And we will join with housing association and private tenants to oppose any evictions due to Housing Benefit cuts.
New DCH newspaper out this week, includes how to defend secure tenancies; Reform of Council Housing finance; Case against transfer; update on ALMOs; Housing Emergency campaign. Send orders now £20 per 100; £120 per 1000 to info@defendcouncilhousing.org.uk
