Stop privatisation; improve existing and build a new generation of first class council housing
Tenants should decide future of ALMOs
A new wave of council housing privatisation is threatened in a new The 60 Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs) will face a drive to full privatisation. DCH warned of this two-stage privatisation threat when we campaigned against ALMOs. The White Paper ignores the principle of Tenant Choice, and the right to a ballot on any stock transfer. It is another reason to demand ALMOs are wound up and housing management is made directly accountable to the Council. This latest direct threat to 850,000 council tenants, is on top of proposed changes to tenancies affecting existing as well as new tenants, cuts in housing benefit and council housing finance.
Tenants and councillors must hold open meetings where all tenants can debate all these proposals; consultation events can kick off mass campaigns to oppose attacks on tenants and demand investment in existing and new council housing.
